Gamar works for Birmingham Opera Company as a translator and mentor. This is his story.

"Running from war in Sudan, finding the hell in Libya, so we take the risk. In the Sudan community, the people all the time like to gather together, so when they arrived here they found themselves doing nothing – just eat, sleep and stay. So I have to make myself busy. So I get in touch with my old colleague and she gave me an idea about the opera.

To be a part of an opera is kind of the honour, or privilege, for them. I can be a part of opera. They can feel proud of it."
