City of Birmingham Touring Opera gave Ravi Shankar's first opera Ghanasyham its world premiere on Tuesday, 3 October 1989 at Stockland Green Leisure Centre, Birmingham, featuring superstars Durga Lal and V.P. & Shanta Dhananjayan.
