We are proud to announce that alongside the success of the first stage of our Going for Gold appeal, Birmingham Opera Company has been chosen as the winner of the FEDORA Education Prize 2020!

Selected from an impressive shortlist of outstanding and innovative projects in opera and ballet from companies across Europe - including Teatro Sociale di Como (Italy), Fondazione Teatro La Fenice (Italy) and Stara Zagora State Opera (Bulgaria) – Going for Gold wins this year’s award for Education and prize money of €50,000.

Watch a message from Bernard Foccroulle, Chair of the Jury for the FEDORA Education Prize:

A private foundation entrusted the decisions making process for this rare €50,000 award to FEDORA, a public vote and jury from across Europe, bringing the prize to Birmingham, UK.

What does the FEDORA prize mean for Birmingham Opera Company?

Together we will make an investment in the future of opera. At its core, Going for Gold will provide development opportunities for 50 emerging artists, mentoring and coaching singers to tackle career-defining roles, many for the first time. We’ll support local volunteers to perform as actors in the heart of the production, and offer free or low-cost tickets for local audiences, in what is the most diverse and youngest city in Europe.
