What is the 10 Districts Programme?

You may know us for our large-scale productions, involving international artists and hundreds of volunteers performing together in large, extraordinary spaces. But did you know that we also mount around 80 free multi-scale events each year across Birmingham? 

The 10 Districts Programme is our year-round programme of free events and activities, targeted to areas and people currently underserved by publicly funded culture. In partnership with community organisations working on the front line, we work with adults and young people of all ages and backgrounds from across the city, bringing opera direct to their doorsteps in their community spaces, care settings, shopping centres and homes. 99% are new to us and to opera. For many, it is a transformational experience. 

Our small team worked throughout the Covid pandemic year-round. Where we couldn't meet in person, we developed our online events to ensure we could still keep in touch and develop the work. And we are still there with our offer - you too can perform in our next productions as a volunteer. Together we can find out what that means for you and the work.
