Much to celebrate here in Birmingham!  

🏆 Birmingham Opera Company, WINNER

Selected from an impressive shortlist of 6 outstanding opera companies from around the world who have continued to inspire throughout the pandemic, Birmingham Opera Company wins the award for Education and Outreach at the International Opera Awards.

Celebrating companies who broaden opera's reach and engage with the wider community, the award recognises our immersive 5-star sellout production Lady Macbeth in 2019. Directed by Graham Vick, 150 Brummies performed together with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra conducted by Alpesh Chauhan and international cast of exceptional soloists at the Tower Ballroom, Ladywood.

🏆 Alpesh Chauhan, WINNER

Each year the International Opera Awards recognise outstanding talent from around the globe. One artist is chosen from major emerging conductors, directors and composers for the Newcomer of the Year award. We're pleased to say this year it's our very own Music Director Alpesh Chauhan!

Alpesh is recognised for his work conducting orchestras around the world and for his UK operatic debut with Birmingham Opera Company's Lady Macbeth. Congratulations Alpesh!

🏆 Paria - PoznaĹ„ Opera House, WINNER

Graham Vick's landmark immersive production of Moniuszko's Paria, produced for PoznaĹ„ Opera House, wins the award for Rediscovered Work of the Year. The award recognises some of the rarer gems unearthed back in 2019. The production is still available on Teatr Wielki's website.
